Toon Boom Harmony, CGRU Afanasy, Blender |
The fuzzy little Yeti monster Nitso has recently gotten keen on learning the letters of the alphabet. But whenever Nitso opens his ABC Book to show us a new letter, it suddenly “vanishes”.
To help little Nitso find the letters, I provided IT and pipeline tools for Toon Boom Harmony. I set up file sync for cooperating studios, set up the open-source render farm Afanasy and created scripts to quickly send Toon Boom jobs to be rendered.
App Prototype
We also developed an app prototype with various mini games, one per letter (for the prototype we made 10).
The app was developed in Unity and I created a one-click auto-rig extension for Blender that generated a fully functional character from a multi-layer PSD file. After extracting all layers, it grouped them into body parts by name prefix, created planes based on the cropped layer content, added the layers as textures and spread them out along the depth axis. The cropped layers were then rebaked into an optimized texture map. It then created drivers and controllers for each body part’s elements, so these elements can be switched and animated. If needed, the rigs could be further refined with bendy chains and other goodies. The rigs are game-engine-ready, and animations could be assembled directly in Unity.
